David Brookings (b.11/12/78) grew up in Richmond, VA., and started playing guitar and writing music at 9. He began playing clubs in Richmond at 15, played in local bands throughout the mid to late ’90s, and released his first solo album, ‘Sounds Off,’ in the fall of 2000. He moved to Memphis, TN. in the summer of 2001 and released his second album ‘End Of An Error‘ in Memphis in early 2004. From 2003-2009 David worked as a tour guide at Sun Studio, where Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, etc., began their careers. While giving tours during the day, he recorded three albums in the legendary studio (‘Chorus Verses The Bridge,’ ‘Obsessed,’ & ‘Glass Half Full‘) at night. After giving a private tour of Sun to Steve Jobs in the spring of ’09, David was hired by Apple to work for iTunes and moved with his family from Memphis to San Jose, CA., in the fall of 2009.

On the west coast, David played solo shows and formed David Brookings and the Average Lookings, maintaining a steady presence in the Bay Area throughout the ’10s. The self-titled album ‘David Brookings and the Average Lookings‘ came out in the summer of 2016, and the following year the label You Are the Cosmos (out of Spain) issued a 12-song Vinyl Only compilation album called ‘King Without a Throne‘. The ‘Scorpio Monologue‘ album was released in April 2019, along with a short companion film ‘The Making of Scorpio Monologue‘. In the late summer of ’19, David and his family left the Bay Area and relocated to L.A.

In the spring of 2020, David began sifting through old tapes of unreleased tracks and demos that would eventually lead to the 50-track digital-only ‘Anthology: Demos, Alternate Take, and More‘. The most recent album ‘Mania at the Talent Show’ came out in November 2021 and has received strong reviews from the power pop community and beyond. In the summer of ’22, he formed a new version of David Brookings and the Average Lookings, and they are playing shows around the L.A. area…
